Frequently askedQuestions

What are OPCs?
OPC-3® Burst includes some of the most powerful bioflavonoids, biologically active members of plant-derived compounds, currently known to research scientists. These bioflavonoids are scientifically termed “oligomeric proanthocyanidins,” commonly abbreviated as “OPCs.” The best-researched OPCs include grape seed, red wine, grape skin, bilberries, citrus fruit and pine bark extract, or Pycnogenol®. This exclusive blend of powerful OPCs delivers comprehensive support for whole-body wellness. OPC-3 helps combat free radicals, support cardiovascular health, promote healthy circulation and maintain healthy cholesterol levels. It also helps maintain joint flexibility, visual acuity, skin health and healthy blood glucose levels — all while supporting nitric oxide levels, blood vessel dilation and even sperm quality.*
What is a free radical?
A free radical is a molecule with an unpaired electron in its outermost shell, making them highly unstable. These unpaired electrons tend to be highly reactive, resulting in chemical reactions such as oxidation. They scavenge the body to grab or donate electrons, impacting cells, proteins and DNA. Free radicals are naturally occurring; however, air pollution, stress, smoking, heavy exercise and aging all contribute to the creation of harmful free radicals. Free radicals can cause oxidative stress in the body. Normally, the body can protect itself from free radicals, but if antioxidants are unavailable or if free radical production becomes excessive, oxidation can occur.
What are antioxidants?
Antioxidants are cell protectors, neutralizing free radicals by donating an electron to the outermost shell of unbalanced molecules, rendering them harmless. Antioxidants are nutrients — like vitamins and minerals — and enzymes that can counteract the effects of the physiological process of oxidation in bodily tissues. Antioxidants work in two ways: chain-breaking and prevention. Some chain-breaking antioxidants include vitamins A, C and E.
What is a bioflavonoid?
Bioflavonoids are complex organic plant compounds. Plants and fruits differ in colors based on the specific bioflavonoids they contain. An increasing number of clinical studies have shown how bioflavonoids support health, with the bioflavonoids found in OPCs playing a key role in cardiovascular health and maintaining vascular integrity. Bioflavonoids support healthy circulation and cell vitality and support normal collagen production, which promotes firmness of the skin, joint cartilage and connective tissue.
How does OPC-3 Burst compare to Isotonix OPC-3®?
A single OPC-3® Burst contains 25 mg of Pycnogenol® — the same amount in a single serving of our Isotonix OPC-3® product. OPC-3® Burst is a delicious and convenient way to get your OPC-3 and is perfect for travel or extra busy days.
Why should everyone take OPC-3?
Everyone is exposed to free radicals. Free radicals develop as byproducts of physiological processes that occur within the body. The impacts may add up over the years; this process is largely responsible for the aging process. OPCs are the most powerful free radical neutralizers, and OPC-3<up>® Burst provides a blend of OPCs designed to support overall wellness when used consistently as part of a healthy lifestyle.*
Why do the US and Taiwan versions of OPC-3 Burst list different calorie amounts on their packaging?
The difference is due to how each country regulates nutrition labeling. In the US, calorie amounts are rounded to the nearest five, so a product with 12 calories would be listed as 10 calories. In Taiwan, there is no requirement to round, so the exact calorie count (such as 12 calories) is shown on the label.
What does “dual-layer” mean in this formulation?
“Dual-layer” refers to a structural and formulation design concept, in which different functional components are positioned in distinct layers to support controlled release behavior, ingredient stability and a consistent digestive handling process. This design does not imply sequential absorption, oral absorption or enhanced bioavailability.
